Office of Program Development

Virtual School

 

Tehran University of Medical Sciences founded with purpose of improving quantities and qualities of medical education and training the experts and professional human resources in Bachelor, Master and PhD levels.

To promote public health and expand the science boundaries, virtual and electronic education is playing an increasing role in medical education and training. Expanding and promoting the science of e-learning, actualizing the use of e-learning in medical education and making scientific ties with other research centers and local/international organizations.

A positive, responsive, and respectful online school culture does not happen in isolation but arises as all teaching and administrative staff focus on achieving the three goals set by Virtual School in a thoughtful and meaningful manner. As a school, we have identified three goals:

·       Reaching out to National and International Students

·       To Be Responsive to the Educational and Administrative Needs of Our Students

·       To support our students to boost their medical knowledge

Office of Program Development

In order to achieve the mentioned goals and to cooperate with educational departments of other schools for virtualizing attending majors, Office of Program Development aims to establish short-term e-courses, create the culture of e-learning as an educational extra-curricular tool and to run degree programs. The Office of Program Development (OPD) provides coordination and support to Schools' efforts on TUMS and works with other TUMS schools to promote internationalization and cross-school collaborations.

The key activities are as follows:

·       Signing inter-schools MoUs

·       Forming a joint strategic committee to hold e-learning

·       Coordinating to get necessary license to hold e- learning

·       Instructional design for e- learning

·       Elaborating how to implement the e- learning

·       Holding empowerment workshops for faculty members

·       Preparing e-course plan

·       Planning the models to develop the e- content

·       Determining the process of admissions and the number of accepted students

·       Admissions announcement

·       Coordinating to take exams and make interviews

·       Signing agreements with top ranking professors

·       Registering the students

·       Holding empowerment workshops for e-students

·       Assigning the modular courses for students and professors

Use of e-learning platform in teaching

Established in 2010, Office of Program Development introduced a new dimension to Virtual School relations.  The Office develops advancement projects to further the School's interest among all TUMS faculties. An operational draft of running e-learning platform in teaching is prepared by this Office. On the other hand, a large number of workshops organized by this office to boost the faculty members' capabilities in blended learning program.

In 2012, 12 workshops have been held at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Pharmacy, School of Paramedical, School of IT, Clinical Basic Sciences, School of Rehabilitation, School of Public Health. The first version of LMS (http://dln.tums.ac.ir) was created in following TUMS schools and the quantitative performance report was sent to all vice-deans of the schools:

·       School of Nursing and Midwifery (182 Credits)

·       School of Medicine(37 Credits)

·       School of Paramedical  (33 Credits)

·       School of Dentistry(9 Credits)

·       School of Pharmacy(72 Credits)

·       School of Public Health (4 Credits)

·       School of Rehabilitation (4 Credits)

·       School of Advanced Medical Technologies (2 Credits)

·       Iran Psychiatry Institute (16 Credits)

 

Based on the recent survey done by the School, a large number of faculty members and students were interested in first version of E-learning portal, therefore; the Office decided to run the second version of e-learning portal at http://namad.tums.ac.ir to facilitate the access of all faculty members of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

So far 3902 credits along with students' names were introduced in users' space and the mentioned portal with its function has been sent to deans and vice-deans of the University.

This Portal is an interactive web space for the use of students, faculty members and staff of the Virtual School Community. The NAMAD Portal was on-line from January 2010 and the implementation for staff and students. This is designed to ensure adequate support and professional development for staff and students and to progressively develop services available through the Portal. It is planned to extend this service to TUMS international students.
