PHEEM Questionnaire

Students' perception of the educational environment is an important construct in assessing and enhancing the quality of medical training programs.  Reliable and valid measurement, however, can be problematic – especially as instruments developed and tested in one culture are translated for use in another.

The Postgraduate Hospital Educational Environment Measure (PHEEM) was developed and validated in Scotland and the West Midlands using grounded theory and Delphi methods:

Reference: Roff S, McAleer S, Skinner A. Development and validation of an instrument to measure the postgraduate clinical learning and teaching educational environment for hospital-based junior doctors in the UK. Medical Teacher. 2005;27(4):326-31.

The Persian version of the PHEEM appears to be a reliable and potentially valid instrument for use in Iranian medical schools – and may find favor in evaluating the educational environment of residency programs nationwide. The Persian version of the PHEEM is developed by:

Shahrzad Shokuhi MD, MSc,  Virtual School and Medical school, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Amir Hossein Emami MD, Department of E-learning in Medical Education, Virtual School, Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Aeen Mohammadi* MD MPH PhD, Department of E-learning in Medical Education, Virtual School, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, aeen_mohammadi@tums.ac.ir

Soleiman Ahmadi MD PhD, Department of Medical Education, Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.
